UNBROKEN Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 September 2026
What the app reads
UNBROKEN uses Android’s Usage Access permission (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS), which you grant yourself in Settings and can revoke at any time.
That permission lets the app see which application was in the foreground and at what time, and when the screen turned on and off. UNBROKEN uses this, and only this, to work out how long you went without opening one of the apps you chose as a feed.
The permission does not let the app read your screen, your messages, your keystrokes, your browsing, or anything inside any other app, and UNBROKEN does not try to obtain that ability. The app does not use an Android Accessibility Service.
UNBROKEN also lists the apps installed on your phone that can be launched, so the feed picker can show “Instagram” rather than “com.instagram.android”. That list is used to draw the picker and is not recorded or sent anywhere.
What is stored, and where
For each day, the app keeps: the start and end times of your feed sessions, the package names of the apps involved, how many times your screen came on, and the waking window you set. It also keeps your settings — which apps count as a feed, your waking window, and whether you have unlocked the app.
The home-screen widget, if you add one, reads the same usage log on your phone and keeps its own copy of your feed-app choices, your waking window and your best stretch, so it can draw while the app is closed.
All of this is held in the app’s private storage on your phone. It is excluded from Android cloud backup and from device-to-device transfer, so it does not leave your phone through those routes either. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
What is sent off the device
Your usage record is never sent anywhere. The app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no account system.
Google Play Billing
UNBROKEN offers an optional one-time unlock. When the app starts, and when you open the unlock screen, it asks Google Play for the unlock’s price and whether you have already bought it. If you buy it, Google Play handles the whole transaction. We never see or store your payment details, and Google’s own privacy policy governs that purchase.
Google Play updates
Every few days, when you open the app, it asks Google Play whether a newer version of UNBROKEN exists. If one does, Play downloads it in the background and the app offers you a restart; nothing is installed without that tap, and the app is never blocked while it waits. The question carries the app’s package name and version, nothing from your record. You can turn this off by turning off automatic updates for the app in the Play Store.
Google Play’s review card
Once, after about two weeks of record, the app asks Google Play to show its own review card. Play decides whether to show anything, Play collects the review, and Play will not tell us who wrote one. The app never asks whether you like it first, never offers anything in exchange, and never asks again. Where Play cannot show the card, the app offers a link to the store listing instead, which you can dismiss for good.
Google Play’s own diagnostics
Google’s Play libraries may send Google technical diagnostics about how those libraries themselves performed. This is Google’s reporting about Google’s software. It contains nothing from your usage record, and we neither request nor receive it.
What we collect about you
Nothing. We do not receive your usage data, your device identifiers, your email address, or anything else. We have no way to identify you and no database to keep you in.
Your control
- Export. Settings → Export copies your entire record to the clipboard as plain JSON, whether or not you have paid.
- Delete. Settings → Delete erases the whole record immediately and permanently.
- Revoke. Turning off Usage Access in Android Settings stops all measurement at once. Your existing record is left untouched.
- Uninstall removes everything, including the widget’s copy.
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to delete on request. The delete button in the app is the whole mechanism, and it is complete.
Children
UNBROKEN is not directed at children, and it collects no personal data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Any change that would let your usage record leave your phone would change the app’s core promise, and would be announced in the app’s release notes rather than buried here.
