Receipt scanning vs manual entry: which is actually faster?

“Just type it in, it takes ten seconds.” That’s the usual defence of manual expense entry, and it’s wrong in an interesting way — not because typing is slow, but because the ten-second version only records a fraction of what the receipt in your hand actually says.
